Our family typically has the exact same Easter plans. Wake up in the morning and the kids do an Easter scavenger hunt to find their Easter baskets (p.s., these Encanto Easter baskets I made this year are AMAZING!), church, then we do an Easter egg hunt, and then we finish it off with a little Easter dinner. Even our Easter menu is similar – glazed ham, homemade crescent rolls, strawberry fluff, and a little carrot cake or mini egg cheesecake for dessert! And while our Easter Sunday is typically the same (and will remain the same – some traditions are best left untouched), I thought it’d be fun to add in a bunch of Easter games and Easter activities on Saturday for a little more Easter fun! We’re meeting up with my entire extended family for our Easter celebration Saturday, and I’m planning to setup this Easter bunny hunt, because it works for any age! The basic idea is that you hide Easter bunnies throughout an area and people find an Easter bunny and win the matching prize. But there are three different variations you can use so keep reading for all the details!
Easter Bunny Hunt Supplies
Supply Notes
Easter bunny hunt cards – you can download these down at the bottom of my post. You’ll only need these if you’re doing the card version of the hunt; if you’re doing the actual Easter bunny version of the game (where you’re hiding a physical Easter bunny), you won’t need the cards. Easter baskets/bags – the idea behind this game is that you hide Easter bunny cards and people win a prize that has the same matching card. You’ll need prizes of some sort whether that is Easter eggs filled with treats, an Easter favor bag with an Easter prize of some sort, or even a fully filled Easter basket. Easter bunny – if you’re doing the second version of this game, you’ll need some sort of actual physical Easter bunny as well. Something like this Beanie Boo Easter bunny would work or even something small like this Easter bunny figurine (we have a ton of bunnies like this around our house).
How to do an Easter Bunny Hunt
Okay so there are three completely different versions of this game but with the same concept of finding an Easter bunny and winning a prize (similar to my turkey hunt). Choose which of the three versions makes the most sense for your group and go with that one! The first two versions is more of an actual activity that you would setup, play, and be done with. The third is more of an on-going activity that might be great for an Easter Sunday activity!
Easter Bunny Hunt Version 1: Easter Bunny Matching
For this version, you’ll need to first print and cut out two sets of the Easter bunny cards so you have two of each card (this is important!). Attach one of each of the cards to a prize bag/bucket/egg. I recommend doing something where the players can’t tell what’s inside, like these brown paper bags. That way they’re not trying to find a particular bunny the entire time. Then comes the fun part – take the matching cards and hide them somewhere. You can do this inside, outside, wherever you want. Hide them as hard as makes sense for the people finding them, but I do recommend hiding them a bit harder so that this isn’t a done in two seconds kind of activity. When you say go, players search the area looking for a bunny card. Once they find one, they can come back and turn it in for the matching prize bag.
Easter Bunny Hunt Version #2: Scavenger Hunt Style
For this second version, you’ll want to print out one set of the Easter bunny cards that you cut out. Then you’ll also want to print out a sheet of the Easter bunny cards, but don’t cut them, for each person playing. Hide the cut out Easter bunny cards wherever you want (easier is fine because they’ll have a lot to find) all over a house, yard, or both. Once you’re done, you’re ready to play. To play this game, you’ll give anyone playing one of the printed out Easter bunny hunt sheets. When you say go, players have to race around to find all of the Easter bunnies on the sheet (just like in this Easter egg scavenger hunt). As they find the bunnies, they should write down on their paper where the bunny was hidden. Or if you’d rather, you can also write a letter or a word on the back the hidden cards that they can then write on their scavenger hunt. When they find the location of all of the bunnies, they can come back and turn their card in for a prize of some sort. I like to do Easter baskets filled with treats but you could do something simpler like even just an Easter egg filled with treats!
Version #3: Everyone Hides the Easter Bunny
Okay so this last version is different than the first two but it’s still an Easter bunny hunt, so I wanted to include it in this post! Hide a physical Easter bunny (like the Beanie Boo or Easter bunny toy I mentioned earlier) somewhere in your house or yard. And come up with a set of prizes – Easter baskets, Easter eggs, Easter candy, etc. – for the game. When people come over to your house, explain that there’s going to be an on-going Easter bunny hunt throughout the day. Then explain that if someone finds the Easter bunny (I recommend showing a picture), they should bring it back to you to win a prize! Now here’s the most fun part of this activity – once the first person has found the Easter bunny you hid, they will show it to you to win their prize, and then they go and hide the Easter bunny around the house for a second round of fun. They can hide it as easy or as difficult as they want – that’s part of the fun of the hunt! Keep finding, winning prizes, and rehiding the Easter bunny until you run out of prizes and the game is over. This one is a great one to play throughout the day rather than just saying go and search for five minutes and be done – the bunny just keeps getting hidden and rehidden all day long.
Expert Tips
Laminate the Easter bunny hunt cards so that you can reuse them year after year. If you’re doing the scavenger hunt version of this, laminate the scavenger hunt cards and have people use dry erase markers to mark them off and write notes. Then just erase, store away with other Easter games for use next year. Have people wait to open their bags until everyone has found a bunny so that people don’t see what’s in them and decide I don’t want to do this for that prize – or better yet, use prizes you know people will want to search for! Do two sets of Easter bunny cards if you’re doing this with multiple ages – one set that are easier for kids to find and one set that’s more challenging. You can just indicate on the cards using a star or number system.
